Book Club assignment - Little Brother

In the book Little Brother, one of the interesting topics were that there were  spies. Marcus (w1n5t0n) was kidnapped by the Federal agents. He was taken into a van for some time, and ended p being in a prison. The agents asked and asked questions because his previous activity was suspicious. He was hacking the school system, but that was irrelevant to why he was there. They kept asking about hbe terrorist atttack and thought he was a part of it. later on people do spy on the whole city with mini cameras, and a mini chip in marcus' laptop. This is relevent to our world, because most of which is happening right now. In the USA for example, The NSA is tracking down internet patterns and what people have been doing. Not only is this invasion of privacy, but people have no internet freedom. Not only internet, but as well as phone calls, listen in on many conversation. In my opinion I have no clue why the government is doing this. To block people away from illegal downloading or just to be in their privacy. The government shouldn't have the power, to even be able to do anything regards to privacy.

Sarah Leishman - Child and Youth worker

Sarah Leishman is a child and youth worker. She helps kids up to 18 with eating disorders special care/needs, etc. She is like a counselor, someone who needs to talk about traumas, problems or events that happened in their life, and help cope. To be a Youth worker you'll need 3-4 years in college programs. Youth workers work in hospitals, schools, group homes, etc. They make about $35,000 to roughly $60,000 per year. I'd consider the job because I love to help people and I'm always there for my friends. Helping someone is no problem for me.

Justin Kominar - Developer at Primal

Justin Kominar works with computers, for his job. He is a programmer at Primal. He told us that "technology isn't that 9-to-5 job. Its a get-the-job-done process." he told the class to get lots of experience and have many summer jobs. Pretty much his job is working with computers all the time. I like this job because I'm good with computers. The jobs of being a programmer, graphic designer and all seems fun to me. A goal of mine is to learn coding. Coding would seem very useful when working with computers.

Amy Beamer

Amy Beamer, came to the class to talk about how we do interviews. We discussed on how you should dress while entering an interview. Never be too dressy, but dress appropriately to look good and ready for the job. Don't fidget or move around to much - Answer all questions with confidence - make sure you have much experience. If you get the job, don't be late. Ever. Always be on time and ready for your job. Otherwise it will cost you your job. She says most interviews can be 20 mins, or last up to 1.5 hours.   Her advice had helped me know what to do in  futures time when I get an interview.

Richard McDonald's job.

Richard McDonald has had many jobs. Worked as an auto mechanic, Cabinet maker, film maker, FIlm critic, magazine columnist and comedy writer (the Red Green show). Richard to me is probably the coolest guest speaker we have had. He has much experience in so many jobs. As a writer, the money can be very low, being in corporate writing is much better. The jobs that interest me the most are Film maker, Film critic and an auto mechanic. Film can be awesome, seeing all the angles you can capture. Rating film can be awesome, as well. You have to be so crucial and honest on what you think of the movie you have witnessed... I have many words for 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet... I always had an interest in auto mechanics, working on cars would be sweet. Having the feel that you just fixed that guys car.. Sweet feel.

Ann Liebau - Midwife

Ann Liebau is a midwife. Basically, she has talked about how it is to be a midwife, and the pros and cons. She has talked about the training and how long it will be in college/university. Its about 4 years..
That's a while in school. She told the class, the moms she will help, they have to be healthy and low risk of problems. They cannot help anyone with Diabetes, Heart problems, etc, they aren't trained for that business. They will be on one week calls 24/7, one awake for 24 hours, they get relieved by another midwife. The facts are: Once the babies are born, its most likely to be in a hospital. Also, Its more healthier to have a baby at home. Very little risk on disease. Would I consider this job? I would actually, I think it would be very cool to be a midwife. Just seeing the process and helping someone is neat. I wouldn't be able to do the birth. To me it'd be disgusting and bleh.. I would second think the job again.

Mark Morton - Professor and Writer

Mark Morton's Job sound very interesting. He has been through 11 years of school, to get a PhD. In my opinion I wouldn't really want to be in school for that long, but if I have a goal set, go figure. He taught  at a university for about 12 years. The starting salary is about $70,000, but apparently if you publish within 3-5 years it may be raised to about $85,000, mid career at about $130,000. So when you are a professor or so speak, a teacher in a university, your salary may be increased if you publish. I am not the one to write books and books and books. I wouldn't pick this job necessarily, I would if i had to. Teaching isn't something that interests me a lot. Same with writing. I would go for my own field if I were to write/ teach.
One of Marks books.

A short story, with a twist.

Well I was walking down some dark road with a thought of “Who am I? How did this happen?” I always ask questions to myself. I’m quite a curious character. Back to the dark road. This mysterious place made me wonder what place like this exists? It’s quite creepy here. Dead trees, no life to return to their roots, houses broken down, abandoned. Dark mysterious sky with hints of purple among the stars. It feels like a junk town. Dead. No life here.
As I walk, the sidewalks crumble with each step as if no one walked here for many years. I walked block to block only to see a light at the end of the road. Bright, warm feeling. I’m very attracted to the light as I scamper over to see what it is. There seems to be a border in this town as I reach the edge of the light.
As I get closer and closer, a door appears. It reads “exit” in bright red lights. Deciding I would love to leave, I open the illuminated door. A ray of sunshine comes through the cracks of the door. As I open it up, it swings wide open. It looks happy! How does this happen? Being in a depressed state from the dark town, I feel warm and happy, I love this happiness. I feel free, overcome of my fears.
There’s lots of green grass for miles. Flowers everywhere. I spot a colourful town as I’m walking down through the greasy fields. I see old happy memories as I’m here. I feel as great as someone winning a gold metal in the Olympics. I hope I will stay this way for a long time. I never want to leave this feeling behind. I am free forever.
My heart suddenly begins to race, and I jolt. “Aha. It was just a dream,” I thought to myself, for a few seconds, what that place would feel like if it were real. I got out of bed and looked out the window expecting to see another cold winter day. My eyes suddenly grew large as I saw the greenest grassy field with the sun glancing down making the field shiny. I whispered to myself, “What the…?” I thought to myself, “Could it have been real? Am I in heaven?” A smile began to form on my face as I rushed out of the house with my jacket.
“Mmmm,” the field right outside of my house smelled like roses! But wait…what is this? No one’s house was there. The street was gone and there was only my house in this never ending field of lush green grass.
Then I felt woozy. I felt a growing headache. I felt that I was going to throw up. My hearing rang, and I saw him. That tall, skinny man. The legend was true! Pale skin…long arms…NO FACE! I ran into the house to find it was as big as a mansion inside. I ran as far as I could and felt the headache again.
I went right into my room. He was there! I ran fast to the window and jumped out. I broke my legs. He came closer. I screamed “No! Let me go! Help! Heelllp! Noooooo!”
That is why you never enter the house of doors. EVER!

Christopher Graves' job

Christopher's job look quite amazing, Project Hope is really set out to help people in need. I'd consider a job like this because after a project out to help, you get the satisfaction that you've changed someones life. I love how you get to travel to the countries and help out for a week or more, and see what these people go though.

TEDTalk.

The TED talk experience was great, i loved on how many speakers actually shared their stories to a unknown audience. I met new people, and had a blast! Hearing peoples stories will make an impact on how you see things. (e.g H.E.L.P made an impact on me by explaining their change in the world and what you can do. Made me see people differently then what society would) The artist was excellent, I loved everyone one of her speed paintings, and what ideas she came with. the hosts knew what they needed to do to make our youth audience get the spirit going. (Doing the wave several times, video taping out audience for the Ted x Waterloo in Centre in the Square, clapping games, etc.)
